While recovering from CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome), it’s best to give our immune system as much support as possible by eliminating sugar & sweeteners, alcohol, and as Dr. Shoemaker’s research recommends – reducing the intake of amylose rich foods.

TIP: Make it easier to resist temptation by avoiding or finding CIRS approved substitutes at your favorite café. Find a few CIRS approved food & beverages that you actually enjoy and make them at home for now. Cheers to your health!!

green tea* is currently debated as an approved beverage in the early stages of CIRS recovery. Though green tea has many health benefits, it can negatively react with certain medications, supplements, and the caffeine can cause anxiety. If you enjoy green tea- it is likely safe to consume one cup of quality* decaffeinated tea each day in between meals without significant harm. (* quality= CO2 process decaffeinated, organic, properly stored, and not expired)

Let’s quickly review the list of “not-now” beverages. Fair warning- this might not be easy. But a vibrant life after CIRS awaits- so muster your will power and find comfort in some of the flavorful substitutions. Your body is craving support- so take all of these off your menu for now for optimum health:

alcohol
beverages with added sweeteners and/or sugar (natural and fabricated)
fermented (kombucha, ginger beer, cider, etc.)
beverages containing foods that are not on the CIRS approved, low amylose list.
avoid any item that you do not currently tolerate (after your elimination diet)

So many helpful and affordable to simplify your beverage preparation and keep you sipping delicious low amylose beverages!

Common question:

“Wine is full of antioxidants”, why can’t I drink it while recovering from CIRS?

Answer:

All alcohol is fermented, and fermented items are not allowed while you recover. Not even the “purest” of spirits, natural kombucha, or beer with the alcohol reduced.

You’ve probably heard about mycotoxins in coffee and wine. Right now, even low levels of mycotoxins are best avoided. Similar to dried spices, coffee and wine are prone to ‘mold’ simply because of the way they are processed and stored before hitting the shelves for sale. It’s unlikely most people can taste or smell these invisible toxins. Some coffee claims to be ‘tested for and free of mycotoxins’. Some wine claims to be ‘tested for and free of mycotoxins’ – but it’s still fermented and contains yeast. If you cannot avoid coffee- try reducing to one cup daily and purchase only mycotoxin free coffee. Wine & all other alcohol should be avoided until your healthcare professional determines you are no longer diagnosed with CIRS.

After CIRS recovery- these are both highly recommended sources if you already enjoy wine & coffee. (https://www.dryfarmwines.com/, and https://puritycoffee.com/ )

A low amylose diet is beneficial for CIRS recovery according to Dr. Shoemaker. Elevated MMP9 levels can often be reduced by following a strict low or no amylose diet. Ask your health professional to monitor your bloodwork details.

The information we provide at Moldfreemenu.com is intended to provide information to better understand how a healthy diet is part of healing from biotoxin illness and not intended to replace consultation with a qualified medical professional.Specific medical advice including diagnosis and treatment will not be provided. This diet does not cure mold illness but does help reduce inflammation- thus reduce symptoms triggered by inflammation.
