Surprisingly, some seemingly healthy foods should be avoided when treating CIRS and following a mold free, low amylose meal plan- like vegetables that grow underground. There are many safe foods for CIRS recovery- this post is a summary of foods that contain little or no amylose but do carry healthy nutrients your body needs right now to rebuild. We will also list the top five items to avoid completely until you have fully recovered – like sweet & high carb foods.
After you have a list of foods to avoid because of personal sensitives, allergies, or intolerances- use the Safe Foods for CIRS list below to guide your meal planning. This post will help you Know what foods are inflammatory for your body right now.
SAFE TO EAT
Vegetables (FRESH, not processed in any way)
- spinach
- romaine
- arugula/rocket
- endive
- kale
- chard
- butter lettuce
- zucchini
- broccoli
- yellow squash
- cucumber
- organic celery
- cabbage
- asparagus
- onions
- garlic
- coconut
- radicchio
- leeks
- watercress
- swiss chard
- okra
- peppers (organic whenever possible. See note about nightshades*)
- Chicken (organic whenever possible and always without the prepackaged flavorings)
- Beef* (local, organic, grass fed whenever possible)
- Fish & some seafood* (wild caught preferred and note some dangerous exceptions!)
- Organic turkey (organic whenever possible and always without the prepackaged flavorings)
- Organic pork* (organic whenever possible and always without the prepackaged flavorings)
- Duck (organic whenever possible and always without the prepackaged flavorings)
- Lamb (organic whenever possible and always without the prepackaged flavorings)
- Fresh or frozen organic blueberries (in moderation)
- Fresh or frozen organic raspberries (in moderation)
- Fresh or frozen organic blackberries (in moderation)
- Fresh whole avocado (not prepackaged)
- Freshly picked spices & flavorings (not dried)

Avoid or only eat these foods occasionally, and in small quantities
- Winter squash, Pumpkin
- Gluten free “grains” like: Quinoa & buckwheat
- Low Mycotoxin nuts & seeds
- Natural sweeteners like monk fruit & stevia
- Mid range glycemeic fruits like oranges, cherries, apricots, plums etc.
Avoid these foods completely
- All bananas and other high glycemeic fruits
- All beans/legumes and other high starch/amylose foods
- All potatoes and other vegetables that grow underground
- All processed foods: meats, vegetables, fruits, and partially hydrogenated fats
- All fermented- alcohol, kombucha, vinegar, cultured dairy, etc.
And of course absolutely no sugar, honey, maple syrup etc. as these feed fungus
